BEAUTY REVIEW: Skin Creamery Wildflower Water-Cream

What do the words toothache, Pará cress, Buzz Buttons and Electric Daisy all have in common? They’re all alternative names for the Acmella flower, a key ingredient in Skin Creamery’s Wildflower Water-Cream.

Skin Creamery’s Wildflower Water-Cream contains the Spilanthes Acmella, a powerful plant botanical known for its medicinal properties. Because of how it stimulates your skin’s fibroblasts, your skin feels immediately tighter and smoother. The hydrating elixir enhances collagen and elastin production while relaxing facial tension and is suitable for all skin types.

Skin Creamery’s ethos is:  ‘Be kind to the earth, and kind to your skin’, meaning no synthetic fragrances, parabens or preservatives are used in their products; also suitable for strict vegetarians and vegans.

I have mature skin, so I used Skin Creamery Wildflower Water-Cream as a serum under a cream plus sunscreen in the daytime and night cream in the evenings – the double layering of products felt wintertime perfect! It’s a lightweight hydrating elixir with a 100% natural fragrance with restorative and regenerating properties.

Did you know that Skin Creamery aims to replace single-use packaging with functional, reusable or recyclable packaging? All their ingredients are naturally sourced, certified organic and cruelty-free. I’m not shy to admit that packaging is a big factor for me when buying beauty products, (I mean, they’re going to sit on my bathroom shelf so I want them to look good while making me look good, right?). I absolutely love their botanical-themed packaging and (recyclable!) frosted bottles.

I’ve written about Skin Creamery before and continue to rave about this proudly South African skincare brand. Have you tried any of their products out? Another one you may enjoy is Skin Creamery Baobab Helichrysum Prickly Pear – read my review here

I’m going to enjoy the last rays of sunshine outside with a cuppa tea before I have to close up for the evening, (we have been blessed with superb winter sunshiny days of late!) I mean it’s June and winter is kindly keeping a low profile – you got it, I’m not a winter person!!) So I’ll sign off and see you later in the week!!!

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30

BEAUTY REVIEW: Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30

The reality of living a modern lifestyle is juggling a plethora of ‘to-do lists, so I’m on the constant lookout for multi-tasking products with active ingredients to help with cell turnover, luminosity, protection from free radicals, UV rays and pollution – in other words, the ultimate beauty cream with a broad spectrum protection SPF30; enter Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30 which covers all of the above and more. I still love using it and here’s why I’ll be popping it into my travel bag….

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30
Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30 uses a light-activated formula called ‘Intelligent Drone Technology’ to correct visible light into increasing skin luminosity for a natural healthy glow, so imagine, while slathering on your suncream to protect against the sun’s damaging rays, it’s also working at a deeper level to brighten your skin and promote radiance. The encapsulated active ingredients correct your skin cells to optimise potency as well as increase collagen production resulting in a healthy plump looking skin. Not too shabby hey!

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30
Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF30

Here’s a quick load down on some more ingredients, a habit I got into from magazine days where I’d scrutinise each ingredient, at times a daunting and scary task when one reads what we put on to our skin sometimes, but knowing Dermalogica products are gluten-free, paraben-free, vegan, fragrance-free and cruelty-free it’s more of an indulged ‘need to know’ scrutiny, so here goes:

Saccharide Isomerate is a 100% natural and plant-based compound which locks in moisturise for way longer than any other humectants do.

Camellia Sinesis Leaf Extract, commonly known as green tea (and is the most researched natural ingredient,) is an anti-oxidant, UV protective and a great choice for rosacea, acne and atopic dermatitis.

Geraniol is a common fragrance ingredient found in rose oil, geranium, lemon and other essential oils, so subtle as in barely there.

Propanediol is a natural alternative for the often used propylene glycol; it improves skin moisture and boosts preservation efficacy.

An oil-based soluble chemical sunscreen called Homosalate, protects against UVB rays.

Dimethicane, a silicone used for a silky smooth feeling, works at filling in fine lines and wrinkles and works as a protective barrier.

Glycerin is also found in our own skin and is a natural moisturiser.

Scalerilide or commonly known as sage maintains an even pigmentation free skin tone.

Dermalogica comes with a unique attitude to their products where they are keen to optimise skin health and fitness; no wonder they have a cult following! As I said I’ve used this product before so perhaps as testimony to how much I love it I wrote this post – have you tried it yet?

Available at Dermalogica spas and from skinmiles  here

So this is the first product I’ve purchased specifically for my trip – I’m thinking of other lovelies to add (any suggestions are welcome and yay I am so excited to go travelling again !!)

Happy Friday evening and see you Tuesday

BEAUTY REVIEW: Solal Oil to Milk Cleanser

Solal Oil to Milk Cleanser

Admittedly I have been seriously slack with my blog of late; I contemplated a purging of sorts on why it has taken me a good two months!! (yikes, I think it is closer to three,) but what on earth will I be gaining from yacking on about my personal shite, so I’ll keep it simple and get to the task on why this lovely Oil to Milk Cleanser by SOLAL ticks my boxes…

SOLAL OIL TO MILK CLEANSER

Solal is another brand I’m seriously into, and it’s a local brand too. I grew up washing
my face with Pears soap (that smell!), but happily moved on to a myriad of different cleansers over the years as I discovered there was more to life than soap! I love using foamy cleansers as
they feel like they are really getting to work, and this one is no exception!

The oil to milk cleanser piqued my interest as on contact with water it changes into a milky
liquid that foams up and feels super clean and soft on the skin. I do have makeup
removers but sometimes am pushed for time so want a multi-functional product
that cleans properly, and also most importantly removes mascara, and thankfully this cleanser
does that.

SOLAL OIL TO MILK CLLLEAANSER INGREDIENTS

I included this as its always nice to know what you’re putting on your face; a quick glance will sometimes leave one wondering what on earth do some of these mean, but luckily Solal keeps the list simple and less is more as in the fewer ingredients one finds generally means the better. (I’m a great lover of dissecting and analysing ingredients but wonder if it bores readers or not?) Thoughts on this – I’m happy to share my views..

Where to buy?

Dischem ( a special is on for R167.20 at the moment)

That is it for today; happy Friday and hope the weekend brings much happiness rest and laughter

REVIEW: INOAR Resistance Lotus Super Ampoule

If you’re wanting a superb treatment for dry dehydrated hair you’ll love INOAR Resistance Lotus Super Ampoules. Known for youthful properties and a symbol of self care, lotus flowers not only smells gorgeous but contain moisturising and revitalizing properties to regenerate hair strands for softer manageable hair. INOAR Resistance Lotus Super Ampoules promise to strengthen, nourish and moisturise  hair within three minutes –  I put it to the test.

Thank  heavens  hair guru David Gillson keeps me happy and blonde with colour and highlights every 6 weeks where I get to relax, zone out and catch up on reading blogs and articles, so time well spent, but as  I already have dry hair plus highlights means I am always on the look out for nourishing products to use in between salon days, so I was delighted to be sent  INOAR Resistance Lotus Super Ampoule.

Benefits of using these potent ampoules are:

Revitalization

Regeneration of hair strands

Anti-inflammatory

Hair growth

Control Hair Loss

Scalp Health

Depending on length of hair, allow for 5-7 washes.  I could have been less heavy handed and stretched to five washes, but  I have a haystack of hair and loved the lotus flower scent, so dolloped it on and managed four uses out of the ampoule. Talking about scents, the lotus hair oil is an added bottle of loveliness for its nourishing properties and I love the gentle whiff when I swish my hair around (think Willow singing “I whip my hair back and forth, back and forth, back and forth and I forget the rest of the lyrics!)

How to use: After shampooing and conditioner routine, I combed throughout hair strands and waited the three minutes, (amazing how one can run a razor under arms, over legs, scrub heels and back scrub in record time!)

INOAR 3 minutes promise? I’d say yes! My hair didn’t look any shinier but it sure felt amazingly soft from the first wash and noticed a vast improvement in the frizz department. The ampoule is seriously worth restocking for in between salon visits.

Inoar products are all cruelty free, botanical, vegan, paraben and sulfate free

BEAUTY REVIEW: Solal Hydration Serum and Solal Even Tone Serum

If you love beauty products that address ageing healthily with minimal effort then SOLAL multifunctional products will resonate with you. I was fortunate to be sent SOLAL Hydration Serum and SOLAL Even Tone Serum which both target my anti-ageing concerns of mature dehydrated skin; here’s what I thought.

SOLAL use multiple actives per formulation at optimal concentrations with no harmful ingredients. Promises? Highly effective active ingredients with long lasting moisture to the skin, repairing the skins barrier and helps with firmness.

SOLAL Hydration Serum for dry dehydrated sensitized skin:

Key ingredients include Jojoba seed oil to provide soothing benefits, omega 7 fatty acids to restore the skin barrier and promote intense moisturization. Niacinamide offers multiple benefits for blemish prone skin, improves enlarged pores, improves uneven skin tone and dullness and also has skin restoring properties to plump and hydrate skin.

Hepotapeptide-34 increases hydration and restores youthful vitality and one of my favourite ingredients, hyaluronic acid for intense hydration!

I loved the non greasy silky texture for easy application and for extra TLC, I applied serum with my little jade roller to boost circulation and (hopefully), minimize fine lines. I use two pumps of serum that easily covered my face and neck area.

Solal Even Tone Serum & Solal Hydration Serum

Solal Even Tone Serum

Promises? Helps to reduce hyper-pigmentation and brighten and restore youthful vitality.

Ingredients include jojoba oil, cross-linked hyaluronic acid and Niacianamide (assists in a more even skin, helps with enlarged pores and general improvement in suppleness hydration and smoothness. Hepta peptides restore and protect against effects of UV exposure and pollution in the skin.

After cleansing skin I applied a generous amount (two pumps) of Even Skin Tone Serum, then a moisturiser (I am using another brand and it works well together).

I used the former serum combined with a moisturiser first and then moved onto the latter serum. Any preferences? I think they both are fantastic products and also get my stamp of approval as they are a local brand ( #supportlocal) and have excellent price points.

SOLAL products have no animal testing, are clinically and dermatologically tested and suitable for all skin types.

REVIEW: Filorga Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Revitalising Serum

Filorga’s Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum contain a plethora of anti ageing ingredients to address skin concerns like lack of firmness, loss of volume, dark spots, signs of fatigue and undefined face contour. I was delighted to be sent them to try out; here’s what I thought….

Filorga Global-Repair Cream

Aimed specifically at mature skin, the latest Filorga Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum  offer some noteworthy ingredients to help regenerate, restore and strengthen skin for a luminous and renewed complexion.

If you’re a fan of Sisley’s cult Black Rose Cream read here then you’ll love Filorga Global-Repair Cream as much as I have from the very first application. A thick rich consistency leaves ones skin feeling super nourished and pampered. Like the former product this doubles up as an overnight mask. Here’s a quick break down of some of the active ingredients.

Filorga’s patented NCEF formula found in injectable mesotherapy contains antioxidants, vitamins and co-enzymes which help regenerate the cells from deep within, boost cell turnover and prevent cells against oxidation.

A cocktail of boosting vitamins, jojoba and evening primrose oils and super ceramides  strengthen and regenerate  the skin’s barrier while hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge helping skin to hold on to water. Peonies aren’t just pretty flowers, but contain a root rich in oligosaccarides that step up lipid storage  in the adipose tissues to help thicken skin so features are restored and redefined.

This powerful new anti-ageing range is extremely effective for those women with a devitalised, mature skin that want an ultra-effective skincare range that instantly tackles all the signs of skin ageing. It is the most powerful anti-ageing skincare range launched by Filorga to date and boasts very impressive results.”Filorga International Medical Advisor, Dr Rieke Smit

As I mentioned earlier the Global Repair Cream used as an overnight mask is super beneficial thanks to anti-ageing ingredients and despite my insomnia, my skin look surprisingly refreshed and rejuvenated! I used the cream on a daily basis over the serum and once or twice a week applied a thick layer just before climbing into bed – it feels soft and velvety and smells good too!

Filorga Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum

The highly concentrated Filorga Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Serum has active ingredients to effectively rejuvenate tired and lacklustre skin. With Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Retinol the serum simultaneously boosts collagen and cellular renewal to smooth wrinkles, restore firmness and deeply nourish the skin. These two products are really impressive and would definitely be on my re-purchase list!

PS: I’ve been a little frantic catching up on a backlog of merchandise and incorporating new ways of shooting at work- all very exciting but time consuming so I haven’t been as regular as I would have liked on the blog, BUT yay, I have found some balance to my days, so back to frequent blogging – my first love! Hoping you day is a bright and sunshiny day!!

REVIEW: Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

I spend most of my day in a studio and reliant on aircon;  winter is a blessing as we crank up the temperature but now with spring I’m constantly flipping the aircon dial as it’s either too hot or too cold so it wreaks havoc on my skin. Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster was sent to me and as my skin has been feeling super dehydrated I did a little jump for joy for a ‘moisture booster’; here’s what I thought….

One of the best ingredients to look for when it comes to anti-ageing is Hyaluronic acid as it plumps and hydrates skin, thanks to its ability to hold over one thousand times its weight in water meaning it can hydrate and plump skin fabulously.

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

The other main ingredient is Glycerin which hydrates skin and helps hold on to moisture. Glycerin enhances the penetration of other ingredients, strengthens skins moisture barrier and improves skins resilience.

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

My thoughts:

As I said my skin leans towards being dehydrated, so including this into my daily routine was brilliant; the light texture serum feels a little sticky at first but sinks in super fast delivering immediate hydration. It is also clinically and dermatologically proven. (See chart below with results)

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster is suitable as a makeup base, is clinically and dermatologically proven, non-comedogenic and appropriate for all skin types. It also has a good price point of ZAR299.99 available at Clicks

That’s it for today….

REVIEW: Nature Box’s Almond range

German brand Nature Box recently hit our shores  and has been receiving rave reviews for their eco-friendly sustainable products that contain no artificial colours and are silicone and paraben-free. They are all vegan certified and available at affordable prices too. I was delighted to be sent their Almond range to see what all the fuss was about.

Nature Box Almond Range includes: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Lotion, Shower Gel & Hair Lift Spray

Cold-Pressed Oils

Nature Box has a number of ranges: avocado, apricot, coconut, passion fruit, pomegranate, olive oil, argan oil and almond. They all contain 100% cold-pressed oils. This is considered the best method to extract, as no external heat is applied meaning antioxidants, vitamins, essential nutrients and fatty acids aren’t affected or damaged. The oils are extracted from the nuts, seed and/or fruit without losing quality and thus retaining their effectiveness.

‘Social responsibly is our top priority supporting smaller farmers for a more sustainable cultivation of raw materials .’

Socially Responsible

Nature Box use sustainably produced palm oil from Nigeria. Palm oil production is notoriously bad for the planet, however Nature Box has joined forces with Solidaridad to ensure their palm oil is sustainably harvested. Solidaridad is an international development organisation that supports small farmers in the sustainable cultivation of palm oil in several regions around the world. For their project in Nigeria small farmers are trained and supported in sustainability cultivating palm oil. This enables farmers to increase their productivity and reduce the negative impact on environment. In addition, the farmers receive a certification for their harvest. You can check out more on Nature Box Sustainability projects here

The Almond range includes their Almond Shampoo R119.99, Almond Conditioner, R119.99, Almond Shower Gel R69.99, Almond Body Lotion R93 and Root Lift Spray R99. Almonds are rich in antioxidants, omega fatty acids and magnesium which is necessary to promote hair growth and also helps with shine, frizz, to nourish hair strands, and to prevent inflammation, dandruff and damage from hair styling tools.

Nature Box Almond Range includes: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Lotion, Shower Gel & Hair Lift Spray

Nature Box Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ve been using these for a couple of months now and I am impressed. I love that the shampoo bottle is the same size as the conditioner so my husband and I can share the bottle. His scalp is sensitive and prone to flakiness and using this on a daily basis has been gentle and left his hair shiny. I have dry hair so only shampoo once a week with lashings of conditioner. They work well on my hair to add moisture and nourishment.

Nature Box Almond Range includes: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Lotion, Shower Gel & Hair Lift Spray

Nature Box Root Lift Spray

I wouldn’t have necessarily gravitated towards the Root Lift Spray as it is aimed at giving volume and, hells teeth, I have enough of that! However, I’ve found that it works remarkably well on restoring my waves. Because I regularly colour and highlight my hair, I have all but lost my curl pattern (except in summertime where the salt water gives my waves back, ha!). I spray this on wet hair and use my hands to scrunch it in, and it dries into natural-looking waves.

Nature Box Shower Gel

I am a huge fan of shower gels as they are just so easy to use. If they lather up nicely and smell good then it’s a big yay from me. Another big bonus is the clear print on the bottles. There have been occasions where I’ve had to climb out of the shower to fetch my glasses, but Nature Box’s bottles are easy-to-read, so there’s no chance of washing myself with conditioner or adding shower gel to my hair..!

Nature Box Body Lotion

I’m always pressed for time my two priorities for a body lotion are it needs to sink in quickly and it needs to smell good. This one ticks both of those boxes.

Would I buy these again?

I love when a range works well, mainly because it looks pretty on my bathroom shelf to have everything matching! I’m impressed by the prices too, especially for the size of the bottles. I’ll definitely be repurchasing, this time the coconut range, suitable for dry hair and skin. And with travel plans still on hold for me I’ll take all the tropical scents I can get!

Happy day

Cath

〈REVIEW〉Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation, OPI handcream, Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oils

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation, elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Oil, OPI HANDCREAM, NAILS & CUTICLE

THREE LOVE

This month I tried out Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra CushionFoundation, OPIProSpa new Professional Protective Hand, Nail & Cuticle Cream and Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oils. Here’s what I thought:

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation

I’m always on the look out for a foundation that gives me enough coverage, is the perfect shade and super lightweight as I hate the feeling of having something ‘heavy’ on my skin, as if it can’t breathe. That sounds rather melodramatic, but it’s true, so am happy to say Lancôme Teint Idole Cushion Foundation ticks all the boxes.

LANCOME TEINT IDOLE CUSHION FOUNDATION

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation is a lightweight, buildable foundation which feels refreshing and hydrating on application. The compact comes with a puff applicator you press into the foundation; (it has a gauze like material covering the foundation to allow the perfect amount out, sans leakage or spills). My shade is #02, which gives enough colour and if I am wanting a slightly thicker coverage I add more (yip, without that claustrophobic feeling of something covering my skin). It has an SPF50, is oil-free and has a natural matte finish. I seriously love love love!

OPI PRO SPA protective nail, cuticle cream

OPIProSpa Protective Hands, Nails & Cuticle Cream

A few weeks ago I went for a soak off from Gelish and thought how crap is the experience with only a soak off and a lick of oil and that is IT! No cream or massage offered for R80! So a BIG heads up to OPIPro Spa and the latest range where feet and hands can experience some luxury TLC!

Renowned dermatologist Dr Zena Gabriel partnered with the brand to create products aimed at hands and feet using facial care products; after all, our hands and feet take a mighty beating for all their hard work so they’re prone to show signs of aging early on. Ingredients like Cupuaçu Butter, a Brazilian superfruit with 9 essential fatty acids and White Tea Extract, a superstar antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals, moisturise and replenish skin beautifully.

OPI PRO SPA hand nail and cuticle cream

The OPI ProSpa range offers 14 professional product for spa use but perfect to use at home also. The range include OPI ProSpa Protective Hand Serum, Exfoliating Cuticle Cream, Micro-Exfoliating Hand Polish, Moisture Whip Massage Cream, Soothing Soak, Moisture Bonding Ceramide Spray, Nail & Cuticle Oil and Intensive Callus Smoothing Balm.

I was given the Hand, Nail & Cuticle Cream to try out and I love it for its convenient handbag size, is lightweight and leaves no residue and mmm, it has a lovely fresh smell!

Available from salons and spas countrywide.

pictured is Pampering Pink & Purple Serenity (sounds Goth, but actually is a gentle wash of purply colour)

Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oils

How adorable is the packaging? This is a real goodie for moisturising properties thanks to five precious oils: coconut oil (hydration), Avocado oil (rich in Vitamin E), Meadowfoam Oil (to balance natural lip oils for suppleness), Splianthes Acmella Flower extract (to help process collagen for firmer plumper lips) and last but not least Tsubaki Oil, (for overall protection).
I am currently wearing Pampering Pink, a light pink wash of colour that leaves lips feeling soft and moisturised.
