REVIEW: Elancyl Energizing Foaming Scrub

As an avid magazine reader and newbie model in the late eighties, an Elancyl advert showing a model with toned gorgeous legs stuck clearly in my mind as the cellulite body care range to use. I laugh now at how simple life was before motherhood, age and a crazy lifestyle and cellulite came into being! Make no mistake, I would still love the body sans cellulite from back then, but my values have changed over the years where having a perfect body in my modelling days is not as important. However, I still love exfoliating for a soft smooth skin and Elancyl Energizing Foaming Scrub does just that.

ELANCYL ENERGIZING FOAMING SCRUB

Elancyl has been the anti-cellulite expert since 1971 introducing a Caffeine Complex in 1978. If drinking coffee was the answer to a damn fine silhouette, I’d be a happy camper, but sadly no, yet applying caffeine topically shrinks fat cells temporarily to create a smoother look.

ELANCYL ENERGIZING FOAMING SCRUB

So here we are in 2019 with an energising foaming scrub to exfoliate and prepare the skin for anti-cellulite treatments, or for a general good rub-a-dub-scrub! I loved using my Elancyl Slim Massage Anti-Cellulite gadget I bought years ago, vigorously rubbing over my skin to get the circulation going; it really worked better than the current loofahs I use – perhaps it’s time to replace it again as I see the price point isn’t too shabby plus a gel R495 at Dischem shop here

ELANCYL ENERGIZING FOAMING SCRUB

Elancyl Energizing Foaming Scrub contains exfoliating particles made from apricot kernel powder, ivy for improving elasticity and firmness and salacia, an extract from the root of a small shrub, to curb the thickening of connective tissues for skin to look and feel smoother, firmer and redefined.

So what’s the verdict on Elancyl Energizing Foaming Scrub?

The scrub’s granules slough off dead skin cells giving me soft smooth skin and works as a great pre-moisturiser step; as for my cellulite concerns? I’m off to order my Elancyl Slim Massage Anti-Cellulite gadget now as swimming season is only four months away and it won’t hurt to start stimulating the body’s circulation and while I’m at it, I’ll grab another coffee!

Available at Dischem for R155 for 150ml, shop here

That’s it for another week – can you believe it is Friday already? Happy Day!

REVIEW: CHANEL HYDRA BEAUTY MASQUE DE NUIT AU CAMELIA

chanel hydra beauty masque de nuit

There’s something really satisfying when I manage to climb into bed at a decent hour on a Sunday evening, more so when I’ve layered on an overnight mask where I’ll undoubtedly wake up not only feeling bright-eyed but experience a radiant, glowing skin! Here’s why I’m currently loving CHANEL’S latest addition to the Beauty Hydra range, CHANEL Hydra Beauty Masque de Nuit Au Camelia:

I often dream I’m that girl swishing down Rue Cambon or attending the latest collections in Paris, pretending to be tres French; call me biased when it comes to CHANEL products, but this newbie is worth a mention for face mask fans like me as it really is a wonderful sensorial experience and helped smooth and brighten my dull and tired complexion!

chanel hydra beauty masque de nuit

I was surprised at the mask’s super lightweight consistency as I imagined a thicker texture, but love the way it glides on easily, changing from a creamy base into a water-like gel that is non-greasy, yet leaves a glowy finish. Inspired by the dewy natural process of tiny dewdrops forming on the petals of Camellias at night, the overnight mask helps skin oxygenate so skin is renewed and radiant upon waking. It’s packed with a powerful punch of hydration thanks to an exclusive micronutrients complex, rich in zinc, copper and magnesium.

Camellias remind me of childhood days spent in my granny’s garden where we’d mash the petals into concoctions of make-believe fairy juice, but these lovelies are pure inspiration, as there is not a trace of smell in the signature bloom.

chanel hydra beauty masque de nuit

CHANEL Hydra Beauty Hydrating Oxygenating Overnight Mask comes with a small petal-shaped applicator for applying the cream to face and lips which is soft and flexible. I prefer using my fingers before massaging in the cream, layering it like a balm fairly thick on my lips and as I don’t need to add a night cream this is the final stage in my beauty routine. With the change of seasons upon us I like to incorporate the Hydra Beauty Micro Serum as the two compliment each other beautifully for a real boost of hydration.

It really does feel like you’re cocooning your skin in a veil of goodness and of course, the best part about an overnight mask is they are fuss-free and timesaving as you can literally jump straight into bed and not worry about washing it off. Sleep time is the perfect time for skin to regenerate and with a mask, even better!

Do you have a preference when choosing a mask? As I said my personal favourite is leaving one on for the lazy me day (or night should I say!), but I do love those peel off masks; going through the whole ritual is so satisfying! I love Tara & Jack ones for those ‘inbetweener’ days and then a treat mask like CHANEL Hydra Beauty Hydrating Oxygenating Overnight Mask!

On CHANEL counters countrywide as from 1 MAY 2018. R1360

Goodness I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already – happy midweek!

FRAGRANCE FILE: Abercrombie & Fitch First Instinct Review and GIVEAWAY

Abercrombie & Fitch First Instinct EDP www.cathitrevor.com

FRESH ‘N FLIRTY

Do you remember that heady rush, a breathless state of setting eyes on someone delectably delicious? Okay, it was a long time ago for me, but I do remember that sense of expectancy and anticipation. First Instinct for Women by Abercrombie & Fitch is a fragrant interpretation of that first moment where two worlds collide and sparks fly with instant attraction; of where a woman follows her first instinct.

First Instinct for Women is classified as a Floriental Wood. As the name implies it is a combination of oriental and floral notes, specifically when including notes of jasmine, gardenia, orange flowers and freesia fused with warm orientals like resin, spices and woods. The notes may sound heady, but the interpretation is actually much lighter for a sensual seductive journey.

Abercrombie & Fitch First Instinct fragrance

Top notes in First Instinct include magnolia, passion fruit and zesty grapefruit to awaken the senses; enchanting wild orange flower, butterfly orchid and exotic water lily at the heart and warm amber, beguiling musk and creamy tonka notes at the base.

As stated by master perfumer Laurent le Guernec,

“I feel that First Instinct for Women is at once playful, feminine, and alluring. With a sensual opening, a sparkling development and a trail of irresistible yet effortless seduction, this formula was crafted to ensure captivation.”

Abercrombie & Fitch First Instinct fragrance

Abercrombie & Fitch is an American Clothing brand with a long history of laidback, luxury style, appealing to a younger generation and synonymous to the fragrance as very wearable. Think fun, flirty, sensual, the perfect match for summertime love! It’s a daytime perfume, a first date or early evening drinks; I gravitate towards floral notes so I am really enjoying wearing it as it is not too heavy or offensive.

FRAGRANCE FILE: Chanel Gabrielle Eau de Parfum

CHANEL GABRIELLE

If there’s one legendary woman who stands out for me, it’s Chanel, not only for her incredible journey from humble beginnings to creating an empire, but for her independent and strong personality; she was passionate, free spirited and a rebel at heart. This is the interpretation of Chanel Gabrielle, the first fragrance Chanel has created in fifteen years.

“We were exploring this whole moment of before Coco – who she really was at the core and that’s what we wanted to express in this new fragrance,” says Christine Dagousset, global president of fragrance and beauty at Chanel.

coco chanel gabrielle

Perfumer Olivier Polge created an imaginary white flower appealing to a carefree, flirty younger generation. Top citrusy notes sparkle with a dash of blackcurrant, exotic Jasmine, heady Orange Blossom, vibrant Ylang Ylang and creamier sweeter Grasse Tuberose make for a richer floral heart bouquet and warm Sandalwood and Musk keep it grounded for an elegant and sophisticated mix.

coc chanel gabrielle

On first spray I experienced the rush of intense sweet blackcurrant and citrusy notes that settled into a complex and rich floral surprise. I’m inclined to like lighter floral notes so this appealed to my senses almost immediately, settling down into woody base notes; (sandalwood is one of my favourites as it feels warm and contained!) I could wear this as an everyday perfume as it’s light and after all, wearing anything Chanel automatically makes one feel sensual, brave and cool, don’t you agree? A timeless and classic brand.

coco chanel gabrielle

The bottle is rather exceptional with thin linear lines making it light and transparent, as if suspended in space; facets throw off light reflections of a golden shade, synonymous with the sunny disposition of the character of the fragrance. The bottle is designed by Sylvie Legastelois, who wanted the bottle to be jewel-like, yet kept simple and in line with the classic bottle.

The face of the campaign is Kirsten Stewart shot by director Ringan Ledwidge and print ad shot by Karim Sadli. Take a peek at the commercial below:

CHANNELLING CHANEL: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour

CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour

“The concept is that there is no concept! It is about sensuality, feeling and the spirit of things.” – Lucia Pica, Chanel Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour arrived just at the right time, mid morning on a cold winter’s day when I had just taken a peek at my pale face and wished that it were possible to quickly escape to an exotic island for some sun! If a warm and natural ‘no makeup’ look is what you’re after, then this one’s for you (and me!).

CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Colour forms part of the Chanel Cruise Collection 2017: les Indispensables De L’Ete. Made with ultra-fine gold particles the powder creates a subtle, natural veil over the skin and comes in five shades: light, medium light, medium, medium deep and deep.

I tried out the Medium Light shade, as I am naturally pale and wanted just a gentle sprinkling of colour. The ultra-sheer and lightweight formula gives a subtle and natural glow to my skin so if you’re pale like me try out one shade darker than your skin tone. If you want to use it as a highlighter then buy a shade one lighter than your skin tone and apply to the middle of forehead, apples of cheeks, Cupid’s bow and the end of your nose where light bounces off to give you touches of luminosity.

GIVEAWAY: GOSH Makeup Hamper Worth R675

I’ve long been a fan of the Danish makeup brand GOSH, as they are affordable, vegan-friendly, plus if there’s something I just ‘have to have’, but am feeling skint, I can just pop it on my Edgars account (they’re exclusive to Red Square and Edgars). I’ve had such fun playing around with these colours which I’ll share with you, but firstly, yay, there’s a GOSH hamper up for grabs worth R675 (they’re clean and new I promise, not my used and cut up testers!). All the deets on how to win the giveaway is at the end of my post, but first a quick roundup on some that I tried out:

GOSH Velvet Touch Lipsticks in 005,014,162

(Left to Right)

GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick Matte, in Cranberry 014 (R140) and GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick Matte, in Classic Red 005 (R140)

Intense pigments give great colour payoff, while lips are kept smooth, nourished and moisturised by Hyaluronic acid.

Gosh Velvet Touch Lipstick in Nude 162 (R140):

Creamy and soft with added Vitamin E keeps lips hydrated; a colour that lasts for hours.

(The Cranberry shade is my favourite as it complements my winter wardrobe of burgundy, khaki and velvet).

Swatches of GOSH Velvet Lipsticks in 005,014,162

Cranberry, Classic Red and Nude

GOSH Forever Eye Shadows come in matte and metallic shades in easily recognisable packaging. There are four matte shades and eight metallic shades to choose from.

GOSH Forever Matt Eye Shadow Sticks – Waterproof (R160) are creamy and soft in texture which makes for easy application as an eyeliner or used as an eyeshadow. The GOSH Forever Matt Eye Shadow Stick in Dark Brown and Dark Grey are my two favourites to create a subtle smokey eye and as they are waterproof, I recommend an oil-based makeup remover.

GOSH Giant Pro Liner in Blacker Than Black : GOSH Primer Plus Skin Perfector Illuminating; GOSH Catchy Eyes Mascar, in Black

GOSH Catchy Eyes Mascara (R155) gives definition and length without being clumpy. The brush is rather hard which I like as it helps get into the corners and up close to the waterline, opening my eyes up nicely.

GOSH Giant Pro Liner in Blacker Than Black (R185)

Whether you’re after a ‘wing’ or a ‘wedge’ eyeliner, this liner gives bold and accurate lines, drying super fast with an intense black colour. I had to stop myself doodling with it I loved it so much!

GOSH Giant Pro Liner in Blacker Than Black

GOSH Primer+ Skin Perfector Illuminating

GOSH Primer Plus + Skin Perfector Illuminating (R255)

Primers are the perfect canvas before applying foundation and something I’ve been using for a while now, as they extend the wear of foundation and have great ingredients to stimulate skin’s ability to renew itself, like ProRenew Complex, plus nourishing oil from superfood Sea Buckthorn. Sometimes I like to use a primer without a foundation as the tint gives a bit of a glow, like you’ve taken a brisk walk outdoors!

For more info on GOSH follow their Facebook page or shop online here

One lucky reader can win a GOSH hamper worth R675 which includes:

1 x GOSH Black Kohl Eyeliner

1 x GOSH Primer Plus Illuminating Skin Perfector

HEAVEN SCENT: Fragrance ideas for Mother’s Day

SCENT-SATIONAL!

Mother’s Day is an auspicious day for me as I had my son on that particular day and this year his birthday again falls on Sunday 14th May, so happy birthday to my first born child and happy Mothers Day to friends and mothers all over!

Who doesn’t love a delicious fragrance, and if your kids don’t take the hint maybe it’s time to for a self-spoil? I’ve rounded up some of my favourite new fragrance finds:

Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Pure EDT

I adored the original Issey Miyake perfume that came out in the early nineties, not only for its fresh aquatic floral scent but the modern, clean lines of the bottle. Miyake designed the bottle himself based on the view from his Parisian apartment of a full moon rising behind the Eiffel Tower. Since 2007 Miyake has brought out a ‘limited time only’ fragrance for women and this version is made up of some gorgeous notes like jasmine, Damask rose and orange blossom in the top and middle notes, and rounded off with cashmere, wood and amber. The combination makes for a light, fresh and floral everyday scent

Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Pure EDP :

50ml R1400

90ml R1790

SIGNORINA by Salvatore Ferragamo EDP

A fruity floral gourmand that opens with punchy pink pepper, sweet jasmine and gentle rose notes, settling into a subtle mixture of musk, patchouli and panchetta; a very wearable fragrance.

Chloe Love Story Eau Sensuelle EDP

If you loved the previous two from Chloe’s Love Story line, the original Love Story Eau de Parfum (2014) and the Eau de Toilette (2016) version, I expect you’ll love this too!

Chloe Love Story Eau Sensuelle is inspired by the love padlocks on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris. They’ve since removed the padlocks as the weight was affecting the bridge, but if you fancy replicating the pledge of love to each other, you could drive up to admire the spectacular view on Signal Hill in the Mother City and “lock your love” on the railings.

Perfumers Anne Flipo (who is responsible for the previous editions) and Domitille Bertier created an “essentially sensual” version with similar notes but intensified the main ingredient, orange blossom (heaven!), mixed with jasmine and heliotrope, settling down with warm and sensual velvety sandalwood. A fresh floral scent.

Missoni EDT

Early morning skies of pale pink and orange streaks is Missoni’s inspiration for the bottle, which is similar to the predecessor Missoni EDP with its darker red and blue hues. The juice itself conjures up the essence of summer: blood oranges, pink berries and juicy Nashi pear, with peony, freesia and heliotrope at the centre, ending with warm base notes of white cedar and musk. A feast of fresh feminine notes.

SISLEY Izia EDP

“IZIA is an inspired perfume that you notice and commit to memory, long after its scent trail has dissipated” – Isabelle d’Ornano, co-founder of Sisley Paris.

Inspired by a rose that blooms for only ten days of the year, co-founder Isabelle d’Ornano wanted to include it in the new Sisley Izia EDP fragrance. The unique scent opens with pink pepper and white bergamot before moving into an elegant and sophisticated heart of rose, angelica and floral notes, ending with warm cedar, musk and amber. I fell in love with this sensual fragrance instantly and I think it’s a good one to wear throughout winter or in the evenings as it’s slightly heavier. Personally I’ve been wearing it daily as it is just too gorgeous! That’s the beauty of having a few fragrances: you can select to reflect how you are feeling.

SUPER POW(D)ER: Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant

dermalogica daily superfoliant

I’ve been dying to try out Dermalogica’s Daily Superfoliant (which is NOT replacing its amazing predecessor the Daily Microexfoliant). So, why another exfoliant and what’s the difference between the two?

The latter is a rice-based exfoliator used specifically to help brighten and smooth the complexion, whereas the former helps to resurface skin, preventing premature signs of pollution related ageing.

Dermalogica has partnered with Breezometer to give insight and access info for consumers on how pollution affects your skin. (pop over to Breezometer to read some interesting facts, such as did you know that exposure to smog can deplete your skins natural Vitamin E by 25%?)

The new exfoliant contains a pollutant-absorbing activated charcoal powder to extract excessive dirt and oil. Lactic acid, a chemical exfoliant, helps to slough away dead skin cells, rice bran, a physical exfolaint, adds bit of ‘hold’ to the powder, while niacinamide, red algae and tea fruit extract, offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits and actively helps fight pollutants.

dermalogica daily superfoliant

How to use it: Tip a half teaspoon of powder into wet hands (it doesn’t activate without water) rubbing it slowly until it forms a foamy paste. Rub onto face in gentle, circular movements for about a minute before rinsing. The result? A super clean and glowing skin! Use only twice a week as powder exfoliants are like a mini microderabrasion which could irritate skin, especially if you’re a tad sensitive! The advanced powder formula activates when met with water, releasing enzymes, skin smoothing AHA’s and anti-pollution technology to deep cleanse pores.
