BEAUTY REVIEW: Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

I received this tube of loveliness a few weeks back and as I am a fan of multitasking products, I wanted to see if Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream delivered as a corrective beauty balm, moisturizer, sunscreen, calms redness and blotchiness and helps eliminate hyperpigmentation. Here’s what I had to say about Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream…

Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

Mornings are a rushed affair of getting as much done within an hour and a half before heading to town. Yes, I could get up ten minutes earlier, but 5am on a winter morning already feels bleak, and fitting in sun salutations and breathing exercises is a vast improvement in trying to live my life! (Thank you to my son, who gently reminds me to ‘keep going mama’). When it comes to beauty, I like to keep it simple and uncomplicated, yet I started a double cleanse ritual whilst in Bali and changed my way of thinking after noticing a remarkable improvement in my skin!) but that’s another blog on the horizon, as it’s back to Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC cream in hand!

Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

Innovative encapsulation technology (regulating stability, delivery, and effectiveness of formulations), preserves the pigments within the microbeads until they are applied. Coming into contact with the skin, the micro-capsules melt, releasing a blend of pigments and iridescent particles to illuminate the complexion. These pigments deliver a ‘rosy glow’ effect that adjusts to all skin colours. I particularly like that it evens out my skin tone and doesn’t look dull and lacklustre. On that note, did you know a dull complexion is a universal concern?

“Studies show ‘A lacklustre complexion is also known as a bland, ashy, dull, muddy, or tired complexion. In all cases, a dull complexion lacks visible radiance, is uneven, and is generally associated with poor overall health. Worldwide, it’s considered one of the most common beauty concerns for many women affecting one out of every two women‘.

Filorga Oxygen- GLow CC cream is infused with arabinogalactan-rich plant extract (found in nasturtiums) and optimizes oxygen transport within the cells increasing collagen production, boosting and revitalizing skin quality.

Hyaluronic acid maintains optimal hydration levels to plum and rehydrates skin in the deep layers.

L-Enzyme is a powerful antioxidant crucial for cell life and helps detoxify cells which helps to give a radiant complexion.

BEAUTY REVIEW: Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Serum

I keep returning to Eucerin beauty products as they offer proven scientific results behind the brand at affordable prices. I was intrigued about Eucerin’s patented new ingredient Thiamidol, which ‘reduces melanin production by acting at the root cause of dark spots,’ and as I have two dark spots on the side of my face, I thought it worth trying. Here’s what I thought of Eucerin Anti-Age Hyaluron Filler + Elasticity 3D Serum:

Beiersdorf has been researching and developing ways to reduce age spots and even skin tone for the last ten years and have come up with an effective ingredient called Thiamidol. Dr Kolbe, medical skincare and R+D expert at Eucerin says, ‘ Thiamidol helps block melanin production in skin cells and with regular use will prevent the reappearance of age spots.’ The innovative and effective Thiamidol is the key active in this range and has been clinically and dermatologically proven to reduce dark marks and prevent their re-appearance.

Hyaluronic production decreases as we age, so extra hydration is a necessity when looking for age-appropriate beauty products. Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler and Elasticity 3D Serum stimulate the production of the skins own hyaluronic acid, which helps plump up deep wrinkles from within. An active ingredient called Arctin derived from the Burdock fruit, accelerates the renewal process of collagen in skin cells, helping with firmness and elasticity.

I love a serum that sinks in quickly, is non-sticky and leaves my skin looking and feeling hydrated. It targets the three main signs of ageing; -age spots, loss of elasticity and deep wrinkles thanks to highly effective active ingredients mentioned above. I’ve been using the anti-ageing serum specifically targeted for mature skin, for the past three weeks, (one pump before my night cream), and whether it is me looking at my skin sans my reading glasses or it truly is managing to help fade the dark spots on my face, I’m feeling really positive in continuing to use this serum.

Suitable for all skin types and is available at Dischem (they were having a special 2 +1 cheapest free so I added a face oil, day cream and a night cream to my routine and so far, I’m happy with the results (and price point too!)

Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity 3D Serum ZAR619,95 for 30 ml
Triple anti-ageing effect; reduces age spots, improves skins elasticity and plumps up wrinkles.

That’s it for today – happy Tuesday!!

BEAUTY REVIEW: The Hydration Booster

I’ve seen so many rave reviews about local brand Lumi Glo so was delighted to be sent one of their most talked-about products recently: The Hydration Booster face mask. Sunday held zip, zero plans for me (apart from soaking up as much of the winter sun as possible), so a little TLC session was definitely in order. Here’s what I thought of The Hydration Booster by Lumi Glo:

I was recently treated to a glorious facial and body massage at Gingerlily spa in Plumstead, by friends who decided a pampering day was just what I needed. Two weeks later and thanks to the air-con at work blasting warm air all day, my skin was back to normal i.e. really, really dry! I drink two litres of water and regularly spritz my face with my handy bottle of Avene Eau Thermale Spring Water, but I still struggle with dryness. If anyone has tips on how to keep hydrated under extreme air-con conditions please share them with me. Anyways, back to my mask!

When skin feels dehydrated and in need of a pick-me-up, nutrition-packed sheet masks really come to the rescue. Not only are they hassle-free, and quick to use, but they prevent the evaporation of water and allow the ingredients to be better absorbed. Plus they are super hydrating.

These masks by Lumi Glo are made from bamboo and loaded with hyaluronic acid which as we all know helps with reducing fine lines, hydration and promoting suppleness. They also contain CBD fruit extracts which restore and calm skin, avocado oil which aids in UV protection, and coconut oil which is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-ageing properties.

As you can see from the diagram above, you gently flatten the mask over the face with your fingers and sit or lie down for at least 15 minutes. I’ve tried walking about the house to get on with other things, but the mask shifts and can slide off so it best to take a moment and chill!

I’ve tried several sheet masks prior and this really supersedes the others. My skin felt deliciously warm, due, I’m sure, to the hero ingredient, CBD fruit extract, infusing my skin! Once I removed the mask I patted the excess serum into my now-hydrated and supple-looking skin. With my skin looking so plump and glowing I wished I had made alternative plans to my Sunday afternoon, rather than a date with Netflix! This mask is a lovely add-on to any beauty regime.

REVIEW: Filorga Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Revitalising Serum

Filorga’s Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum contain a plethora of anti ageing ingredients to address skin concerns like lack of firmness, loss of volume, dark spots, signs of fatigue and undefined face contour. I was delighted to be sent them to try out; here’s what I thought….

Filorga Global-Repair Cream

Aimed specifically at mature skin, the latest Filorga Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum  offer some noteworthy ingredients to help regenerate, restore and strengthen skin for a luminous and renewed complexion.

If you’re a fan of Sisley’s cult Black Rose Cream read here then you’ll love Filorga Global-Repair Cream as much as I have from the very first application. A thick rich consistency leaves ones skin feeling super nourished and pampered. Like the former product this doubles up as an overnight mask. Here’s a quick break down of some of the active ingredients.

Filorga’s patented NCEF formula found in injectable mesotherapy contains antioxidants, vitamins and co-enzymes which help regenerate the cells from deep within, boost cell turnover and prevent cells against oxidation.

A cocktail of boosting vitamins, jojoba and evening primrose oils and super ceramides  strengthen and regenerate  the skin’s barrier while hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge helping skin to hold on to water. Peonies aren’t just pretty flowers, but contain a root rich in oligosaccarides that step up lipid storage  in the adipose tissues to help thicken skin so features are restored and redefined.

This powerful new anti-ageing range is extremely effective for those women with a devitalised, mature skin that want an ultra-effective skincare range that instantly tackles all the signs of skin ageing. It is the most powerful anti-ageing skincare range launched by Filorga to date and boasts very impressive results.”Filorga International Medical Advisor, Dr Rieke Smit

As I mentioned earlier the Global Repair Cream used as an overnight mask is super beneficial thanks to anti-ageing ingredients and despite my insomnia, my skin look surprisingly refreshed and rejuvenated! I used the cream on a daily basis over the serum and once or twice a week applied a thick layer just before climbing into bed – it feels soft and velvety and smells good too!

Filorga Global-Repair Cream and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum

The highly concentrated Filorga Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Serum has active ingredients to effectively rejuvenate tired and lacklustre skin. With Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Retinol the serum simultaneously boosts collagen and cellular renewal to smooth wrinkles, restore firmness and deeply nourish the skin. These two products are really impressive and would definitely be on my re-purchase list!

Filorga Global-Repair Cream (R1395) and Global-Repair Intensive Nutri-Restorative Multi-Revitalising Serum (R1395)

PS: I’ve been a little frantic catching up on a backlog of merchandise and incorporating new ways of shooting at work- all very exciting but time consuming so I haven’t been as regular as I would have liked on the blog, BUT yay, I have found some balance to my days, so back to frequent blogging – my first love! Hoping you day is a bright and sunshiny day!!

REVIEW: Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

I spend most of my day in a studio and reliant on aircon;  winter is a blessing as we crank up the temperature but now with spring I’m constantly flipping the aircon dial as it’s either too hot or too cold so it wreaks havoc on my skin. Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster was sent to me and as my skin has been feeling super dehydrated I did a little jump for joy for a ‘moisture booster’; here’s what I thought….

One of the best ingredients to look for when it comes to anti-ageing is Hyaluronic acid as it plumps and hydrates skin, thanks to its ability to hold over one thousand times its weight in water meaning it can hydrate and plump skin fabulously.

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

The other main ingredient is Glycerin which hydrates skin and helps hold on to moisture. Glycerin enhances the penetration of other ingredients, strengthens skins moisture barrier and improves skins resilience.

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

My thoughts:

As I said my skin leans towards being dehydrated, so including this into my daily routine was brilliant; the light texture serum feels a little sticky at first but sinks in super fast delivering immediate hydration. It is also clinically and dermatologically proven. (See chart below with results)

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster is suitable as a makeup base, is clinically and dermatologically proven, non-comedogenic and appropriate for all skin types. It also has a good price point of ZAR299.99 available at Clicks

That’s it for today….

SKIN QUENCHERS: Sheet Masks by The Body Shop

Amongst all the uncertainty and change of routine, I’ve been trying to make room for more me-time during lockdown. I’ve had great fun trawling through my beauty cupboard using forgotten-about cleansers and masks (and for once we’re not talking fabric face masks!).

I got around to treating myself to a few sheet masks from The Body Shop I had been saving. Back in the day, before The Body Shop came to South Africa, it was considered extremely cool for someone to return from travels abroad with their products! Three of my favourite buys included a reinvigorating shampoo called Ice Blue Shampoo, a cooling and refreshing gel for puffy and tired eyes called Elderflower Eye Gel and, my ultimate favourite, a vanilla oil in a nondescript plastic container where one drop lasted an entire day.

Sadly the formula changed and their vanilla scent was never quite the same, but my love for The Body Shop products has never waivered. They were one of the first to speak out against animal testing in beauty products and to encourage customers to recycle their packaging. But enough jabbering; let’s get to the masks!

Aloe Calm Sheet Mask

Before the science of medicine was developed, aloe vera was
considered a life-saving plant. In Ancient Egyptian culture it was referred to as the Plant of Immortality and by Native Americans as the Wand of Heaven.

Thanks to aloe vera and cucumber in the Aloe Calm Sheet Mask, my skin felt instantly hydrated and smooth. I popped the sealed mask into the fridge for an extra cooling experience before I applied it to my face. I lay down and listened to a 20 minute podcast episode before removing the mask, massaging the excess product into my often-neglected décolletage and neck area.

Vitamin E Quench Sheet Mask

Vitamin E Quench Sheet Mask

Wheatgerm oil is one of the richest sources of natural Vitamin E and is known for its moisturising and hydrating properties. During the first weeks of lockdown I spent a considerable amount of time soaking up the sun in my backyard (how glorious was the weather!) so my skin really benefitted from this mask which contains nourishing oil plus Hyaluronic acid. After fifteen minutes I removed the mask to reveal a noticeably hydrated and plumper face.

I do wish I had a stash of these sheet masks to apply weekly as they really made an instant difference. I’d keep these in my overnight bag if I was travelling anywhere – not that there’s a chance of that happening any time soon!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost exfoliator, city shield hydrating moisturiser & eye-awakening gel-cream

On most days I take the train into the city as I am trying to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible; yes, public transport has its ups and downs with delays and cancellations, but the majority of the time I love the buzz and feeling of being part of a community and of course there’s time to catch up on reading, podcasts and social media. Having a hectic work schedule leaves little time to spend pampering myself during the week, so I’m always looking for no fuss, easy to use beauty products that deliver great results. Neutrogena® latest additions to the HYDRO BOOST range is specifically designed to help city girls boost their skin defences against the stresses of everyday life and the environment which takes its toll on skin.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator, Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream & City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

A few months back we attended Neutrogena®, launch held on the rooftop of Radisson RED Hotel, in Silo Square. With a magnificent view of Cape Town harbour and Table Mountain in the background, we were treated to the most delish food with copious amounts of cappuccinos (which always makes me happy), before an informative talk on how the environment affects your skin and a breakdown on the latest additions to Neutrogena® HYDRO BOOST range.

The three products joining the HYDRO BOOST range are: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel, Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25 and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream.The range is designed to boost water levels and strengthen moisture barrier to keep skin supple. I was particularly chuffed to see the moisturiser carries a broad spectrum photo stable SPF25 to shield against UVA and UVB rays. Even for those of us who do not live in the city, we are still exposed to aggressors that have a negative effect on our skin like car exhausts, smoke, stress and sun exposure which all contribute to the generation of free radicals which harm our skin in a major way.

The mascot for Radisson RED is Baxter the Boston Terrier; the hotel is pet friendly and you can check in with your pooch (8kg and under) – cool huh!

Nomzamo Mbatha local face of Neutrogena

It’s always great to see Neutrogena®, local Brand Ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha as she is just so bubbly and upbeat! Look how fab she is in her polka dot dress!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator, Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream & City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel
I’m wary of exfoliants with granules, but this is a really gentle exfoliator with naturally derived microbeads, so no nasty plastic beads getting sloshed down the drain. With hydrating hyaluronic acid and the combination of Neutrogena cleansing technology this cleanses and moisturises at the same time, and doesn’t dry out my skin or make it feel “taut”. R99,95

Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

I’ve used Neutrogena® consistently over the years as they are a reliable brand delivering real results, so I’m chuffed as I said earlier, that they have included an SPF with a moisturiser. I find it is enough protection if I’m popping out to grab a bite, but if spending more time outdoors, I’d add a higher SPF50. (I wish I had been vigilant about suncream in my early years, but I refused to listen to my mother ranting on about the harsh midday sun, because I wanted to look “healthy” and tanned and now I see tell-tale signs of pigmentation and dark spots coming through). Nevertheless, back to this lightweight texture I love, as it sinks in easily, is non-greasy, and a great canvas before applying makeup.

The flat tube looks small, but it is actually the same size as a tub of 50ml moisturiser, and a little goes a long way. It’s the perfect size and shape to pop into a gym bag or for travelling as it takes up less space, won’t break and has a no-nonsense flip lid. R139,95

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream
A refreshing gel formula designed for the eye area and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. It also contains Neutrogena’s unique Hyaluronic Gel Matrix for an intense shot of hydration which lasts for the entire day. It is perfect for application under makeup too and helps with dark rings and circles around the eye area. R139,95

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator, Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream & City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

Available at selected Clicks, Dis-Chem, Foschini & pharmacies nationwide.

Let me know if you’ve tried out any of these newbies? I think the price points are good, as they are all under R140; not too shabby!

NECK AND NECK: Doctor Duve Boosting Neck & Decollete Cream & Theravine Ice-Crystal Technology Sculpting Neck Volumator

Doctor Duve & Theravine Ice-Crystal Technology

Spring means it’s time to swap my winter woolies for summer items and whilst trying on tops I could wear again or donate, I noticed how crappy and saggy my neck area has become. No more hiding under polo necks and sweaters as it is time to show some skin! Too often we neglect the neck and decollete, second only to eyes for showing one’s age! So it was a toss up of sitting with a mask of avocado and kiwi fruit on my face every day, (it’s been noted that applying this combo on your face can have beneficial collagen results), or looking for specific anti aging neck creams; These two Doctor Duve Boosting Neck & Decollete Cream and Theravine Ice -Crystal Technology Sculpting Neck Volumator are well worth a mention!

Doctor Duve Boosting Neck & Decollete Cream

DOCTOR DUVE Medical Skin Care Boosting Neck & Decollete cream:
Renowned dermatologist and anti-aging expert Dr. Stefan Duve is the name behind Doctor Duve Medical Skin Care. He has won numerous awards for his breakthrough technology specifically on advanced anti aging research, regenerating stressed and mature skin. So what makes his brand so unique?

The key ingredient in his products is growth factors, which are plant based and mimic growth factors or growth hormones produced naturally in the human body. These growth factors help promote formation of collagen and elastin fibres, stimulate cell turnover renewal and help slow down the aging process. Other ingredients include hyaluronic acid to reconnect tissues and plump up skin, plant based stem cell extracts for stimulating new skin cell growth; Macadamia nut, jojoba, almond, avocado oils plus Vitamin A and E, to help improve overall texture and moisture imbalance.

Theravine Ice-Crystal Technology

THERAVINE Ice-Crystal Technology Sculpting Neck Volumator:

So besides slathering on these creams I am also upping my intake on foods that help boost collagen like essential fatty acids Omega 3-6-9, nuts, olive oil, salmon and avocado; red and orange fruits for added Vitamin A; Vitamin C from citrus fruits, peppers, strawberries, Brussel sprouts, mango and kiwi; and for both Vitamin A & C those dark leafy greens like kale, spinach and Swiss chard.
