REVIEW: Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

I spend most of my day in a studio and reliant on aircon;  winter is a blessing as we crank up the temperature but now with spring I’m constantly flipping the aircon dial as it’s either too hot or too cold so it wreaks havoc on my skin. Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster was sent to me and as my skin has been feeling super dehydrated I did a little jump for joy for a ‘moisture booster’; here’s what I thought….

One of the best ingredients to look for when it comes to anti-ageing is Hyaluronic acid as it plumps and hydrates skin, thanks to its ability to hold over one thousand times its weight in water meaning it can hydrate and plump skin fabulously.

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster

The other main ingredient is Glycerin which hydrates skin and helps hold on to moisture. Glycerin enhances the penetration of other ingredients, strengthens skins moisture barrier and improves skins resilience.

My thoughts:

As I said my skin leans towards being dehydrated, so including this into my daily routine was brilliant; the light texture serum feels a little sticky at first but sinks in super fast delivering immediate hydration. It is also clinically and dermatologically proven. (See chart below with results)

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Moisture Booster is suitable as a makeup base, is clinically and dermatologically proven, non-comedogenic and appropriate for all skin types. It also has a good price point of ZAR299.99 available at Clicks

That’s it for today….

SKIN QUENCHERS: Sheet Masks by The Body Shop

Amongst all the uncertainty and change of routine, I’ve been trying to make room for more me-time during lockdown. I’ve had great fun trawling through my beauty cupboard using forgotten-about cleansers and masks (and for once we’re not talking fabric face masks!).

I got around to treating myself to a few sheet masks from The Body Shop I had been saving. Back in the day, before The Body Shop came to South Africa, it was considered extremely cool for someone to return from travels abroad with their products! Three of my favourite buys included a reinvigorating shampoo called Ice Blue Shampoo, a cooling and refreshing gel for puffy and tired eyes called Elderflower Eye Gel and, my ultimate favourite, a vanilla oil in a nondescript plastic container where one drop lasted an entire day.

Sadly the formula changed and their vanilla scent was never quite the same, but my love for The Body Shop products has never waivered. They were one of the first to speak out against animal testing in beauty products and to encourage customers to recycle their packaging. But enough jabbering; let’s get to the masks!

Aloe Calm Sheet Mask

Before the science of medicine was developed, aloe vera was
considered a life-saving plant. In Ancient Egyptian culture it was referred to as the Plant of Immortality and by Native Americans as the Wand of Heaven.

Thanks to aloe vera and cucumber in the Aloe Calm Sheet Mask, my skin felt instantly hydrated and smooth. I popped the sealed mask into the fridge for an extra cooling experience before I applied it to my face. I lay down and listened to a 20 minute podcast episode before removing the mask, massaging the excess product into my often-neglected décolletage and neck area.

Vitamin E Quench Sheet Mask

Vitamin E Quench Sheet Mask

Wheatgerm oil is one of the richest sources of natural Vitamin E and is known for its moisturising and hydrating properties. During the first weeks of lockdown I spent a considerable amount of time soaking up the sun in my backyard (how glorious was the weather!) so my skin really benefitted from this mask which contains nourishing oil plus Hyaluronic acid. After fifteen minutes I removed the mask to reveal a noticeably hydrated and plumper face.

I do wish I had a stash of these sheet masks to apply weekly as they really made an instant difference. I’d keep these in my overnight bag if I was travelling anywhere – not that there’s a chance of that happening any time soon!

Have you tried any of these and what did you think?

Have a fantabulous Tuesday

REVIEW: NEUTROGENA HYDRO BOOST NEW ADDITIONS

Neutrogena Hydro Boost exfoliator, city shield hydrating moisturiser & eye-awakening gel-cream

On most days I take the train into the city as I am trying to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible; yes, public transport has its ups and downs with delays and cancellations, but the majority of the time I love the buzz and feeling of being part of a community and of course there’s time to catch up on reading, podcasts and social media. Having a hectic work schedule leaves little time to spend pampering myself during the week, so I’m always looking for no fuss, easy to use beauty products that deliver great results. Neutrogena® latest additions to the HYDRO BOOST range is specifically designed to help city girls boost their skin defences against the stresses of everyday life and the environment which takes its toll on skin.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator, Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream & City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

A few months back we attended Neutrogena®, launch held on the rooftop of Radisson RED Hotel, in Silo Square. With a magnificent view of Cape Town harbour and Table Mountain in the background, we were treated to the most delish food with copious amounts of cappuccinos (which always makes me happy), before an informative talk on how the environment affects your skin and a breakdown on the latest additions to Neutrogena® HYDRO BOOST range.

The three products joining the HYDRO BOOST range are: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel, Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25 and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream.The range is designed to boost water levels and strengthen moisture barrier to keep skin supple. I was particularly chuffed to see the moisturiser carries a broad spectrum photo stable SPF25 to shield against UVA and UVB rays. Even for those of us who do not live in the city, we are still exposed to aggressors that have a negative effect on our skin like car exhausts, smoke, stress and sun exposure which all contribute to the generation of free radicals which harm our skin in a major way.

The mascot for Radisson RED is Baxter the Boston Terrier; the hotel is pet friendly and you can check in with your pooch (8kg and under) – cool huh!

Nomzamo Mbatha local face of Neutrogena

It’s always great to see Neutrogena®, local Brand Ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha as she is just so bubbly and upbeat! Look how fab she is in her polka dot dress!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator, Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream & City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel
I’m wary of exfoliants with granules, but this is a really gentle exfoliator with naturally derived microbeads, so no nasty plastic beads getting sloshed down the drain. With hydrating hyaluronic acid and the combination of Neutrogena cleansing technology this cleanses and moisturises at the same time, and doesn’t dry out my skin or make it feel “taut”. R99,95

Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

I’ve used Neutrogena® consistently over the years as they are a reliable brand delivering real results, so I’m chuffed as I said earlier, that they have included an SPF with a moisturiser. I find it is enough protection if I’m popping out to grab a bite, but if spending more time outdoors, I’d add a higher SPF50. (I wish I had been vigilant about suncream in my early years, but I refused to listen to my mother ranting on about the harsh midday sun, because I wanted to look “healthy” and tanned and now I see tell-tale signs of pigmentation and dark spots coming through). Nevertheless, back to this lightweight texture I love, as it sinks in easily, is non-greasy, and a great canvas before applying makeup.

The flat tube looks small, but it is actually the same size as a tub of 50ml moisturiser, and a little goes a long way. It’s the perfect size and shape to pop into a gym bag or for travelling as it takes up less space, won’t break and has a no-nonsense flip lid. R139,95

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream
A refreshing gel formula designed for the eye area and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. It also contains Neutrogena’s unique Hyaluronic Gel Matrix for an intense shot of hydration which lasts for the entire day. It is perfect for application under makeup too and helps with dark rings and circles around the eye area. R139,95

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator, Eye-Awakening Gel-Cream & City Shield Hydrating Lotion SPF25

Available at selected Clicks, Dis-Chem, Foschini & pharmacies nationwide.

Let me know if you’ve tried out any of these newbies? I think the price points are good, as they are all under R140; not too shabby!

NECK AND NECK: Doctor Duve Boosting Neck & Decollete Cream & Theravine Ice-Crystal Technology Sculpting Neck Volumator

Doctor Duve & Theravine Ice-Crystal Technology

LIFT OFF
Spring means it’s time to swap my winter woolies for summer items and whilst trying on tops I could wear again or donate, I noticed how crappy and saggy my neck area has become. No more hiding under polo necks and sweaters as it is time to show some skin! Too often we neglect the neck and decollete, second only to eyes for showing one’s age! So it was a toss up of sitting with a mask of avocado and kiwi fruit on my face every day, (it’s been noted that applying this combo on your face can have beneficial collagen results), or looking for specific anti aging neck creams; These two Doctor Duve Boosting Neck & Decollete Cream and Theravine Ice -Crystal Technology Sculpting Neck Volumator are well worth a mention!

Doctor Duve Boosting Neck & Decollete Cream

DOCTOR DUVE Medical Skin Care Boosting Neck & Decollete cream:
Renowned dermatologist and anti-aging expert Dr. Stefan Duve is the name behind Doctor Duve Medical Skin Care. He has won numerous awards for his breakthrough technology specifically on advanced anti aging research, regenerating stressed and mature skin. So what makes his brand so unique?

The key ingredient in his products is growth factors, which are plant based and mimic growth factors or growth hormones produced naturally in the human body. These growth factors help promote formation of collagen and elastin fibres, stimulate cell turnover renewal and help slow down the aging process. Other ingredients include hyaluronic acid to reconnect tissues and plump up skin, plant based stem cell extracts for stimulating new skin cell growth; Macadamia nut, jojoba, almond, avocado oils plus Vitamin A and E, to help improve overall texture and moisture imbalance.

Theravine Ice-Crystal Technology

THERAVINE Ice-Crystal Technology Sculpting Neck Volumator:

Two key ingredients in Theravine’s Ice Crystal Technology range is snow algae powder and plant stem cells which make for an ultra effective product for optimizing skin’s capacity for accelerating cell renewal, increasing hydration and fortifying the skin. Other ingredients include hyaluronic acid to prevent further moisture loss and ensure skin remains supple, Uplevity Peptide to fortify and strengthen skin, and a highly specialised tetra-peptide to help improve skin’s density, strength and firmness.

So besides slathering on these creams I am also upping my intake on foods that help boost collagen like essential fatty acids Omega 3-6-9, nuts, olive oil, salmon and avocado; red and orange fruits for added Vitamin A; Vitamin C from citrus fruits, peppers, strawberries, Brussel sprouts, mango and kiwi; and for both Vitamin A & C those dark leafy greens like kale, spinach and Swiss chard.
