BEAUTY REVIEW: Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

I received this tube of loveliness a few weeks back and as I am a fan of multitasking products, I wanted to see if Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream delivered as a corrective beauty balm, moisturizer, sunscreen, calms redness and blotchiness and helps eliminate hyperpigmentation. Here’s what I had to say about Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream…

Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream
Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

Mornings are a rushed affair of getting as much done within an hour and a half before heading to town. Yes, I could get up ten minutes earlier, but 5am on a winter morning already feels bleak, and fitting in sun salutations and breathing exercises is a vast improvement in trying to live my life! (Thank you to my son, who gently reminds me to ‘keep going mama’). When it comes to beauty, I like to keep it simple and uncomplicated, yet I started a double cleanse ritual whilst in Bali and changed my way of thinking after noticing a remarkable improvement in my skin!) but that’s another blog on the horizon, as it’s back to Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC cream in hand!

Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

Innovative encapsulation technology (regulating stability, delivery, and effectiveness of formulations), preserves the pigments within the microbeads until they are applied. Coming into contact with the skin, the micro-capsules melt, releasing a blend of pigments and iridescent particles to illuminate the complexion. These pigments deliver a ‘rosy glow’ effect that adjusts to all skin colours. I particularly like that it evens out my skin tone and doesn’t look dull and lacklustre. On that note, did you know a dull complexion is a universal concern?

Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream
Filorga Oxygen-Glow CC Cream

“Studies show ‘A lacklustre complexion is also known as a bland, ashy, dull, muddy, or tired complexion. In all cases, a dull complexion lacks visible radiance, is uneven, and is generally associated with poor overall health. Worldwide, it’s considered one of the most common beauty concerns for many women affecting one out of every two women‘.

Filorga Oxygen- GLow CC cream is infused with arabinogalactan-rich plant extract (found in nasturtiums) and optimizes oxygen transport within the cells increasing collagen production, boosting and revitalizing skin quality.

Hyaluronic acid maintains optimal hydration levels to plum and rehydrates skin in the deep layers.

L-Enzyme is a powerful antioxidant crucial for cell life and helps detoxify cells which helps to give a radiant complexion.

OUT OF LINE: Filorga’s Time-Filler Intensive Wrinkle Multi-Correction Serum

I’ve been pleading wrinkle ignorance by simply avoiding getting too close to the bathroom mirror. My plan was foiled recently, however, during an eyebrow dyeing session, where my reading glasses magnified everything for me! I know nothing will magically whip wrinkles away, and they’re part of who I am but, damn, my heart still races for a good serum and moisturiser that promises to help slow things down a bit!

I was lucky enough to be sent Filorga’s Time-Filler Intensive Wrinkle Multi-Correction Serum to test out, and so far I’m absolutely loving it.

Did you know that neck wrinkles are said to be becoming more prevalent and at a younger age, as a result of hours spent looking at a phone? Filorga’s serum is for both face and neck, to combat a range of different types of wrinkles, including contraction, surface, dryness and neck wrinkles.

Serums are an essential part of a beauty regime. They have extra beneficial anti-ageing properties and work more effectively with a day or night cream; ( one doesn’t have to only use one brand for your face). I’m a beauty junkie from my magazine days where we’d get to try out tons of creams and serums, from all sorts of different brands and I have never experienced any major break-outs from mixing and matching brands.

I’ve noticed an increase in fine lines around the mouth and cheek areas so I seek out products with active ingredients in them. This serum contains hyaluronic acid and two peptides, which help with loss of density and structure to the skin, boosting cell turnover and collagen. Sea fennel extract and Imperata cylindrica root extract help with these concerns too, plus they add a youthful plumpness to your skin.

Neck wrinkles? Another active ingredient called kangaroo paw flowers which increases the synthesis of Tenascin-X, addresses any saggy neck concerns. I also love another fab ingredient called hexapeptide that mimics Botox-like actions of relaxing and smoothing frown lines, crows feet and muscle contractions.

Commenting on the latest addition to the Time-Filler range, Filorga’s International Medical Advisor, Dr Riekie Smit says, ‘Time-Filler Intensive is a powerful and very effective anti-wrinkle serum that provides observable result in a little as seven days with maximised results noticed after eight weeks’.

Filorga Time-Filler retails at R870 for 30ml and available from the following online retailers:

REVIEW: Nivea Hyaluron Cellular Filler

Nivea Hyaluron Cellular Filler

Dry skin, age spots, uneven skin tone and firmness are four niggling skin concerns I share with many of my friends who are in the same age bracket, so when NIVEA’s premium advanced anti-age range landed on my desk, you can imagine my delight! The range includes NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Anti-spot Treatment Serum, Bi-Phase Nourishing Oil Elixir, Day Cream SPF15 and a Night Cream. Here’s what I thought…

The NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity range contains a powerful combination of Hyaluron, Collagen and Elastin to tackle tell-tale signs of ageing like loss of firmness, deep wrinkles and dark marks. The reality of growing older means skin deteriorates faster with a decline in three specific things:

1.Hyaluronic acid (needed to enhance moisture content, revitalise skin’s outer surface layers for smooth and radiantly hydrated skin)

2. Collagen production (an essential protein that provides elasticity, as one of its benefits is its ability to promote vibrant glowing skin)

3. Elastin (a protein found in connective tissue responsible for giving structure to skin and organs. It works together with collagen to keep connective tissues to hold their shape)

Scientific results show that after continued use of NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity, there was a 20% increase in collagen production, Hyaluron levels increased by almost 30% and skin’s elastin increased by a whopping 64%!

I loved all four, but the star of the show is NIVEA Bi-Phase Nourishing Oil Elixir, heaven indeed!

NIVEA Bi-Phase Nourishing Oil Elixir

NIVEA Bi-Phase Nourishing Oil Elixir

Before use, one gives the glass bottle a gentle shake so that the elixir enriched with a Triple Oil Complex and a water phase combines before applying one or two drops to your face and neck area. It’s non-greasy, sinks in easily and leaves my skin feeling incredibly hydrated, smooth and firm. I Absolutely love the Elixir and would buy it again and again and hello, the price point is great too! (R325)

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Anti-Spot Treatment Serum

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Anti-Spot Treatment Serum

At first, I thought ‘anti-spot’ meant helping with problematic skin as in pimples but the treatment serum addresses age spots specifically. With the help of the three-star ingredients to stimulate skin cells to produce their own Hyaluron, Collagen and Elastin plus a highly effective melanin inhibitor developed to slow down the production of melanin which reduces the appearance of existing age spots and dark marks. I have been using two pumps both morning and night before applying the day/night creams and have already seen great results with the age spots on my hands! Results say with regular use, after three months they’ll be even more visibly reduced, so watch this space! (R289,99)

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Day Cream SPF15

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Day Cream SPF15 helps prevent photo ageing, dark spots, cell damage and boosts firming; (thanks to the cell-activating formula of Hyaluron, collagen and elastin booster that stimulates the skins synthesis process), it is super nourishing and hydrating and the slight iridescent sheen adds a radiant glow. The SPF15+ protects against UVA and UVB rays; I find day creams that automatically include an SPF is a bonus as you’re halfway there (it is recommended to pop an added SPF over your day cream if spending time outdoors). (R269,99)

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Night Cream

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Night Cream tackles the tell-tale signs of ageing in mature skin while encouraging skin renewal throughout the night (thanks to the cell-activating formula) plus shea butter which is high in fatty acids and vitamins, great for firming and soothing. (R269,99)

Would I recommend NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity range and use again? Absolutely! They are all currently available at Clicks. Shop here

Have an awesome Friday up ahead and happy day!

Q & A with Dr Alek Nikolic on SK.IN INGREDIENTS SERUMS

SK.IN

I’m constantly on the look out for beauty products that address skin tone, firmness and texture because let’s face it, growing old has it’s good points, but fabulous flawless skin ain’t one of them; enter beauty brand sk.in ingredients! Cape Town based medical aesthetic practitioner Alek Nikolic is the genius behind these potent and powerful serums targeting anti-ageing concerns. I caught up with Alek to find out more about his line sk.in ingredients:

Dr Alek Nikolic for sk.in ingredients

How long have you been working on these five products and what was your incentive in creating them?

I have been working on these serums for 3.5 years to get them to a point to fill bottles. The reason for this length of time was the formulation and the concentration of the ingredients is my own creation.

Where did your inspiration come from?

After I used retinol on my own skin for the first time, I noticed visible changes. People are generally afraid of using retinol or vitamin A due to the skin reactions, which led me to investigate ingredients in more detail and in turn to formulate my own range with two main focus points: The first is that doctor prescribed cosmeceuticals are traditionally only available at doctors’ rooms (aesthetic medical practitioner, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, etc.) limiting availability to the general public. There is a good reason for this as the ingredients and their concentrations can produce unwanted side effects which if they develop, would need medical attention. I wanted to create a brand that contains high concentrations of doctor prescribed active ingredients but at the same time limit or reduce the ability for skin reactions. This would allow great skincare to be available to everyone. So, my focus was the ingredients used for the skin and this is how we derived on the name of the brand: sk.in = skin ingredients.

The second main reason is I felt a number of brands don’t offer a combined targeting ingredient and skin barrier repair ingredients in one serum or product. I am a firm believer that we all have to some degree or another a compromised skin barrier, even if we take diligent care of our skins. Exposure to pollution, smoking, unhealthy eating, laptop and computer screens, cell phones, visible light, etc. all contribute to the stress on the skin barrier.

We can apply the best ingredient on our skin but if our skin barrier is compromised, ingredients won’t reach its full potential. I wanted to create a range that not only had a targeting ingredient (such as vitamin A or vitamin C) but that it also ingredients to repair and maintain the skin barrier throughout the day and night.

SK.IN

I got to try out MARVEL, GLOSS & BOUNCE

Tell us a bit about the names

I know they are a bit quirky, but we wanted to go with a ‘superhero’ kind of theme but at the same time indicate what they will do for the skin:

FLASH is for the HPR (Hydroxipinalcalone retinoate) because of its ability to restore the skin to is more youthful state but in a ‘flash’.

BOUNCE is our combination HPR and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate (AT) or vitamin C and it will bounce the skin back to its original form.

GLOSS is based on the skin brightening effect of the AT or vitamin C.

PURE is based on the cleansing action of the salicylic acid, the fruit enzymes and the Zinc PCA.

MARVEL is based on the hyaluronic acid plumping and moisturising effect and the skin barrier repair effect.

Retinol is a confusing ingredient to understand – can you explain what type to look for in products and what type you used in your products:

Retinoids is a word used to describe a group of different vitamin A derivatives of which retinol and HPR are some of them. I chose HPR over all of the different retinoids because of its ability to reduce skin reactions. All vitamin A (except HPR) needs to be converted to retinoic acid before it can start ‘working’ on the skin. We have retinoic acid receptors in the skin and only retinoic acid can bind to these receptors and only once bound to these receptors can the changes start taking place. HPR is a retinoic acid ester (derived from tretinoin the prescription strength vitamin A) so no conversion needed. Furthermore it is the conversion process that causes the reactions to take place. The more steps needed the greater the reaction.

“Potent enough to target the errors of the past, powerful enough to get your skin working at its best again, sk.in gives you superpowers”

What age do you suggest your clients start incorporating these ingredients into their routine and specifically, Retinol.

This is dependent on the real age of the skin. People in their twenties can have fine lines and wrinkles appearing, so it’s not really an age thing but rather how their ageing skin is changing. Another approach is to start using active ingredients as a preventative approach. So generally speaking we should consider actives such as low dose HPR (flash 1) and vitamin C (gloss) in our twenties with a good SPF 30 or higher that contains zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.

Will you be adding to your range anytime soon?

Definitely yes. I am extremely excited about the new additions and do not want to give too much away except to say that the ingredient combinations and their concentrations are fairly unique and will be very effective.

I am also working on a professional treatment line that will allow satisfied sk.in serum users to have skin treatments to further enhance their skin at a professional therapist or doctors rooms.

sk.in ingredients pure

Do you recommend PURE for everyone to cleanse their face or is this specific for oilier skin?

PURE is a solution applied after cleansing the skin and should not be used daily. We use medical strength salicylic acid and as such we recommend that it is only applied 2 to 3 times weekly depending on what the skin can handle. It has two main targeted effects:

  1. Acts as an at home chemical peel for hyperpigmentation, ageing prevention, treating existing ageing skin changes, smoothing skin texture.

  2. Works to diminish and prevent acne breakouts, reduces oil or sebum production and minimises pores.

I read somewhere your Hyaluronic Acid has a low molecular weight – what does that mean?

All our serums contain HA. PURE (solution not a serum) contains Hyalasome which is a cross linked HA. The cross linking prevents breakdown so it stays longer in the skin. The HA in our serums is a complex which is a mixture of low, medium and high molecular weight HA. Specifically, we have used 50 kDa, 320 kDa and 800 kDa molecular weights to make up the entire complex. The reason for these different molecular weights is to allow different absorption and penetration through all the layers of the skin: from epidermal to dermal. This maximises the benefits of the hyaluronic acid through the superficial to the deepest layers of the skin. The low weight penetrates deep into the skin and similarly the higher remains more superficially in the skin.

I love these serums as they can be incorporated into whatever other products in beauty routine- besides a moisturiser and an SPF would you recommend adding anything from within eg. collagen supplements or?

Collagen supplements are great but they need to be hydrolysed collagen and the concentration needs to be higher than 6000 mg. my recommendation to boost skin effects is to rather consider other treatments such as chemical peels and/or Dermapen/needling.

You’ve gone for biodegradable packaging and vegan ingredients- is it because it’s a Global’s trend or something you share on a personal level

We are very aware of the environment and specifically what we can do to help. We have also partnered up with Greenpop and are contributing a percentage of our sales to this organisation. We are busy working on allowing customers at checkout to add a small amount to their basket which will go directly to Greenpop as it is our mission to become as environmentally friendly as possible.

Do you have a personal favourite

My personal favourites are GLOSS and FLASH 3 which I use every day as well as the new additions which will be coming soon.

Can you tell us a bit about the skin analysis machine you use to monitor skin treatments

The skin analysis machine we use is the latest 7th Generation VISIA Complexion Analysis System to monitor progress with all of our skin treatments. For online I have developed a short and a detailed skin assessment (we call it the sk.in test): https://skiningredients.com/sk-in-assessment/ which allows online customers to get recommendations for their skin types and concerns. We are also very glad to help customers through email and recommend them to email me or Sam with their high res photos of their face and from there we can also recommend.

In all of our studies we performed the Visia over 4, 8 and 12 weeks to monitor changes and improvements.

sk.in ingredients Dr alek nikolic

I was super chuffed to try out three of Alek’s serums: GLOSS, BOUNCE and MARVEL and can see a remarkable improvement in my skin; I’m going for my final skin analysis in a week’s time so watch this space….

All sk.in ingredients products are vegan friendly, have never been tested on animals and are free of parabens, sulphates, gluten, soy and nuts.

BEAUTY EMPTIES: MINI REVIEW

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift and firm Sculpting Gel, YSL Touche Eclat, SVR Creme Riche

Starting off the year with an empties post on some lovelies I’ve used the past month with some on repeat button; here’s my round up:

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift and firm Sculpting Gel, YSL Touche Eclat, SVR Creme Riche

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch

I’ve used this beauty must-have for years as, like a magical golden wand it covers dark circles and redness, illuminating and highlighting the complexion. When I’m tired the outer part of my eyes look bruised and this covers well, (at my age it gets harder and harder to achieve a radiant glow and this definitely helps achieve a fresh faced look).

I alternate between shade 1.5 and 2, the latter being summer perfect as it is a little darker and the former I tend to use throughout winter where my skin is paler.

Would I repurchase?

Yes on repeat! I actually couldn’t find it in my local Edgars the other day so will have or buy it online or ask a friend who is returning from overseas, so I can’t check the latest price, but as it lasts six to eight months it is worth it.

Sh’Zen Gentle Care Facial Essence

When my skin is feeling frazzled due to an air-con environment or needing an energy boost I like to pat a drop or two into my face as it smells amazing and I feel revived! Essential oils like Rose, Chamomile, Lavender and Sandalwood restore and hydrate the skin while wheatgerm and evening primrose oil offer radiance and energy to the complexion.
Buy here ZAR405 for 30ml

Would I repurchase?

Yes, as I adore face oils and this get a big high five for smell factor, but I shall wait for payday (anyone else feeling January money slump and it is only the ninth today!)

SVR Densitium Creme Riche
French brands always grab my fancy because in my heart I wish I had that natural French flair for dressing and loads of their beauty brands at my disposal. I was sent this to try out and the SVR Densitium Creme Riche really appealed to me as it targets dry mature skin; it is seriously rich so I held back on being too heavy handed but wow I really love the richness and the way it plumped up my skin. Active ingredients like bio-calcium and hyaluronic acid restructure the skin surface and offers fantastic hydration. It is Paraben and allergen free and 100% tested on sensitive skins. I read a clinical study on 22 volunteers who used it, applying twice daily for 21 days and these are the test results:

96%* Firmer skin

91%* More comfortable skin

90%* Smoother skin

82%* Sculpted skin*

Buy here ZAR400

Would I repurchase?

Absolutely, a rich and sumptuous cream at a fantastic price point – 400 bucks.

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift and Firm Sculpting Gel

This is the second time I’ve used Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift and Firm Sculpting Gel as I absolutely loved it when first sent to me. I’m usually in a rush to slap on a product and get out in the morning so this makes me linger a little longer, massaging in an upward motion over face and neck area to help firm and tone skin. It is very therapeutic, is non-sticky and really hydrates the skin; I

Buy here ZAR755

Would I repurchase?

I am usually in a rush to slap on a product and get out in the morning so this allows one to linger a little longer, massaging in an upward motion over face and neck area to help firm and tone skin. As I said I have had it twice now so will probably take a break for a bit but would repurchase again!

Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lift and firm Sculpting Gel, YSL Touche Eclat, SVR Creme Riche

Have you tried any of these empties and what do you think of them? By the way, how is your year going – I have been writing a hello and happy New Year type of post, which I’ll get up in the next day or two…I feel a good energy in the air…roll on 2019!!

NIVEA HYALURON CELLULAR FILLER: REVIEW

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler

Formerly known as Cellular Anti-Age, NIVEA has renamed and re-packaged their anti-ageing range to Hyaluron Cellular Filler consisting of a day cream, night cream, serum and an eye cream. If you, like me, have been led to believe that the more money one spends on a beauty product the more beneficial it will be, think again; NIVEA’s scientifically-proven formulation contains 3 key ingredients to fight ageing skin concerns and is available at a fab price point! Here’s why I love this range:

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler products contain hyaluronic acid, Magnolia Extract and Creatin. Found naturally in your body, hyaluronic acid has an amazing ability to deliver lasting moisture as it can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. Because it occurs naturally in the skin there is very little chance of causing irritation or an allergic reaction. With age our skin loses its suppleness and hyaluronic acid helps turn back the clock by rejuvenating your skin, improving its protective barrier, supporting its healing and repairing ability, and provides a defence to fight UV damage (as free radicals can break down elastin and collagen). When skin is hydrated, fine lines and wrinkles are less noticeable so always look for a product that contains this marvellous ingredient!

Magnolia extract also has anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties, helping to neutralise free radicals and decelerate the aging process. Creatine plays an important role in supplying energy to nerve cells and skeletal muscle (that’s why bodybuilders like to add it to their diet) but cosmetically speaking Creatine helps improve skin cell turnover, increase elasticity and treats hyper-pigmentation. Read more on each product below:

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler

NIVEA Cellular Anti-Age Skin Rejuvenation Day Cream ZAR250

This helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase firmness and improve skin renewal thanks to the aforementioned ingredients. The formula sinks in easily, is non-greasy and leaves my skin feeling hydrated and smooth. The added SPF15 protects skin from UV-induced ageing, dark spots and cell damage which is a plus for me as I have pigmentation on the side of my face. I’d layer a higher SPF over this if you spend lots of time outdoors, but as I’m in studio most days I find it is enough for winter (hurry up, warm summer days!)

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Anti-Age Eye Cream ZAR250

I am not the greatest at always including eye creams into my beauty routine, but as this one is ophthalmologically tested it’s safe to use on my sensitive eyes. It has definitely helped to improve the delicate under-eye area by brightening and moisturising nicely.

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Anti-Age Serum

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Anti-Age Serum ZAR250

I love, love, love serums. This one comes in a pump dispenser which preserves the active ingredients and gives an even-metered dose of serum. Serums have a thinner consistency and a more potent concentration of ingredients so I find two pumps is ample to cover my face and neck area before applying a day or night cream. This is an added bonus of tackling skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, pigmentation, redness and inflammation. As one ages I’m always on the look-out for products that give radiance, brightness and smoothness and I saw an improvement after ten days with a brighter looking skin!

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Anti-Age Night Cream

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Night Cream ZAR250

I usually experience a day or two of skin bumps when trying out products too rich in anti-ageing ingredients, but this one felt great and I had no break-outs. The scientific formulation works well to stimulate collagen and elastin, repairing skin for a youthful appearance and upon waking it gives you a touch of radiance and brightness, something I hanker after!

Have you tried out this range yet and what do you think? It’s available from Clicks, and if you hurry there’s one more day of the special where you can buy any 3 selected Nivea Face Care Products and get the cheapest free. Selected stores only. Valid until 22 August 2018″

Happy Tuesday!

ELIZABETH ARDEN Flawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup

From Left to Right: BARE (04), NEUTRAL BEIGE (06) & GOLDEN CARAMEL (11)

When Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup first dropped, I thought I’d slide the compacts to one side once I had read the press release as I tend to steer clear from using too many powders, as I feel it’s often unnecessary to wear as I have dry skin, yet these are not powders, but a combination of a cream and powder in a gel-like consistency.

Curiosity got the better of me so immediately popped some on my face; the texture is unusual, not quite dry & not quite wet and, as the name states ‘bouncy’, like set jelly, with a slight sheen to it. I love working a product into my skin, blending & massaging with my fingertips (there’s nothing worse than a tell-tale foundation line under the jawline), but it was easier to use the sponge to blend it. Although I still think they are closer to a powder than a foundation, I’ve grown rather attached to using them as they are lightweight, don’t clog my pores, long lasting and it still feels like my skin can breathe.

So how does it work? The formulation contains a network of polymers which mimics skin’s natural movement, designed to ‘move’ with your facial expressions, so it doesn’t sit in fine lines and wrinkles.

lawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup

Caffeine, Ginseng, Peppermint would certainly put a spring in my step so naturally these combined ingredients will wake up your senses and skin while giving all day coverage. There’s a choice of 14 shades, (I’ve been using Bare 04 & incorporate Neutral Beige 06 in for a bit more colour, especially during winter because I’m paler than pale!) I’ve started wearing more blush of late, as a rosy flushed glow is what I’m after as the older I get the more colour I’m needing to look fresh and alert, but more about blushers in my next post…!

Ingredients include Hyaluronic acid, Apple, Watermelon and Lentil extracts, great for hydration, whilst Wu Zu boosts radiance. Vitamin C, D, E, Ceramides and Mushroom Extract all help support natural collagen and minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

A 3D Gel Network seals pigments, essential oils and antioxidants to the skin while blurring and brightening imperfections. See why Flawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup are so lovely?

REVIEW: Dermalogica Calm Water Gel & Barrier Defense Booster

Dermalogica cavendish square

I popped into Dermalogica in Cavendish Square last week to experience a facial using the latest additions to the Ultra Calming range: Dermalogica Calm Water Gel & Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster and my skin looks happy indeed!

Dermalogica stores offer a free face mapping analysis service, dividing your face into 14 zones to interpret your skin concerns. My skin is going through a sensitive spell with the changing of weather and in dire need of hydration. Zara, my therapist, assured me I’d definitely feel and see a difference after incorporating these two newbies into my facial.

dermalogica barrier defense booster & dermalogica calm water gel

Dermalogica Ultra Calming Calm Water Gel was created to hydrate and protect dry and sensitive skin without harming or irritation. As Dermalogica products are plant-based, gluten and paraben free with no artificial colours or fragrances it already sits high on my agenda and in fact when buying products I like to read the ingredient list and question: “Are they environmentally friendly, do they give back to communities, are they cruelty-free, paraben free etc..”. As Dermalogica ticks a lot of boxes, ( read here about FITE), the price tag seems justifiable. So, back to the products in hand!

dermalogica calm water gel

The gel-like consistency of Dermalogica Ultra Calming Calm Water Gel is a real light, refreshing and non-drying moisturiser that feels cool on application. Ingredients include liquorice root, an anti-inflammatory which deals with redness and brightening of skin. Apple extract, rich in AHA’s gently exfoliates to rid dead skin cells, Cactus pear extract, rich in potent antioxidants soothes and calms sensitive skin, and hyaluronic acid for mega moisture.
I’ve been using the gel in the morning after using my Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing balm (read here on my thoughts on the balm), at night and the two work well together with no break outs occurring. A really great moisturiser to add to your routine! R890

dermalogica barrier defense booster

Photographs: Ian Reeves Photographer

Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster, shop here is a concentrated oil specifically for sensitive skin to help nourish, soothe and balance skin. Key ingredients include squalane to lock in moisture and oat oil known to soothe skin. If you’re suffering from sensitive skin I recommend the AVEENO range available at Clicks shop here. I’ve been suffering from chronic itchy skin of late and find Aveeno Dermexa Emollient Body Wash alleviates it pronto! I wrote an article on Aveeno a few months back, read here. Other ingredients in Dermalogica booster include cranberry, (which also helps prevent clogging of pores), meadowfoam, kiwi, walnut and sunflower extracts, all potent antioxidants and high in fatty acids needed for nourishing and soothing skin. I really like facial oils for their added benefits and only a drop or two is needed to add to my moisturser Dermalogica Ultra Calming Calm Water Gel so I reckon the bottle should last a good couple of months. Do you use any Dermalogica products and want to share your thoughts?
